Depression has significant potential morbidity and mortality, contributing to suicide, incidence and adverse outcomes of medical illness, disruption in interpersonal relationships, substance abuse, and lost work time. In addition conditions like chronic medical illness adversely affect and aggravate the mental health of individuals. Anxiety and depression has been observed more often in chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) compared with the normal population during this pandemic.
The aim of this module is to provide clear, straightforward information about appropriate diagnosis and management of depression in chronic medical conditions.
The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of health care practitioners who commonly encounter and manage patients suffering from depression.
After completing this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to recognize the importance of recognizing depression and help optimize the management.
